Sreenivas Chavali
Principal Investigator
Sreeni obtained his Ph.D degree in Biotechnology from the University of Pune, India in 2009, for the work done at CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi, India.
Subsequently, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Unit for Clinical Systems Biology, University of Gothenburg, Sweden (February 2009-October 2010). He moved to MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (MRC-LMB), Cambridge, UK as a Career Development Fellow (November 2010-January 2012) and subsequently received EMBO Long Term Fellowship (February 2012- January 2014).
He was an Investigator Scientist at MRC-LMB (February 2014- December 2018) before he joined IISER, Tirupati in January 2019 as Assistant Professor in Biology. From July 2022, Sreeni is an Associate Professor in Biology at IISER Tirupati.
Raja Shekar Varma K
Post Doctoral Fellow
Raj obtained his doctoral degree in Computational Biology from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India.
Subsequently, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at School of Informatics and Computing, Indiana University, USA (Jan-Dec 2018).
He joined the group at IISER Tirupati in June 2019 as postdoctoral fellow, his current research is focused on structural deconvolution of Argininosuccinate synthetase mutations causing Citrullinemia disease.
He is also actively involved in various other projects related to Artificial Intelligence (ML & DL), Next Generation Sequencing and Single Cell RNA sequencing data analysis. Outside research, he loves to watch movies, read books, meditate and play cricket.
Anjali Kumari Singh
Integrated PhD
Anjali joined IISER Tirupati in 2018, in the Integrated Ph.D. program. Prior to joining the group, she did Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) honours (H) in Microbiology from Asutosh College, Calcutta University.
The focus of her research is on understanding the role of repetitive sequences in protein functionality. Her research is supported by Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF).
Outside research, she enjoys pencil sketching and writing short stories.
Ankita Mohapatra
Integrated PhD
She is a joint student between the Plant Development & Applied Genetics Group led by Dr. Eswar RamiReddy and the Genomics & Systems Biology group.
She did her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) honours (H) in Botany from Udayanath (Auto) College of Science and Technology, Utkal University.
Currently she is interested in understanding the molecular mechanism underlying both biotic and abiotic stress of plants, and the role of intrinsically disordered proteins in it. Her research is supported by a fellowship from IISER Tirupati.
In her free time, she likes to keep herself busy with calligraphy, craft work, watching multilingual movies and sports.
Namita Chutani
Integrated PhD
Namita completed her bachelor's degree in Biochemistry (Hons.) from Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi.
Currently, she is pursuing her doctoral degree as an Integrated Ph.D. student at IISER Tirupati. She is a joint student between the Molecular Oncology group led by Dr Pakala Suresh Babu and the Genomics and System Biology group.
Her research work is based on the epigenetic regulatory functions of a chromatin remodeling protein family- Microrchidia (MORCs). Outside research, she is a dance enthusiast, loves yoga and adventure sports.
Her research is supported by a fellowship from IISER Tirupati.
K Sai Keertana
Integrated PhD
Keertana joined IISER Tirupati in 2019 as an integrated Ph.D. student.
She graduated from Amity University, Haryana, where she pursued Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Biotechnology.
Her research focuses on elucidating the functional specificity of DEAD box RNA helicases. Her research is supported by a fellowship from IISER Tirupati.
Apart from research, she is passionate about reading novels, baking, music, hiking and adventure sports.
Madhumita Krishnaswamy
Research Intern
Madhumitha joined IISER Tirupati in 2020 as a BSMS student.
She is currently working on studying the evolution of Heat shock proteins across eukaryotes.
Outside of academia, she is active in student clubs, enjoys listening to music and is passionate about literature.
Anushka Agrawal
PhD
Anushka joined IISER Tirupati in 2022 as a PhD student, after completing M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Ranchi University.
Currently she is invested in gaining a systems level understanding of host-pathogen interaction focusing on human viruses.
Outside academia, she loves to draw, play badminton and is all up for exploring new places.
R.Nagashree
Integrated PhD
Nagashree completed her Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from Government Degree College for Women, Begumpet, Osmania University.
She joined Integrated Ph.D. programme at IISER Tirupati in 2021. She is interested in understanding how variability in protein sequences affects function and cellular/physiological outcomes. Her research is supported by Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF).
Apart from research, she enjoys dancing, pouring over books of diverse genres, and playing sports.
Anita P. Saju
Project Associate
Anita joined IISER Tirupati in 2018 as a BS-MS student.
She is currently working on gaining a systems-level understanding of the biodiversity of microfungal morphologies.
Apart from research, she loves to watch movies, play outdoor sports, and listen to music.
